Okay, confession time: The first time I went to Latin America, I was terrified.
Really, truly terrified.
I’d decided on a complete whim to study abroad in Argentina, and the next thing I knew, I was packing my bags for a five-month trip to the Southern Hemisphere. I had no idea what I was doing, and it was the best decision I’ve made in my life.
Whether it was the freedom I felt from being able to whip out a coherent Spanish phrase at a moment’s notice, or the general excitement of being young and abroad, something about this trip changed my priorities and me. It inspired spontaneous trips to Chile and Uruguay and subsequent backpacking experiences in Ecuador and Colombia. I’ve found a home no matter where I travel in the Americas, and I’m so excited to share my Latin American experiences with you!
Throughout this section of the blog, you’ll find travel guides and tips and tricks for how to navigate these incredible cities. You’ll also encounter fresh narratives and personal anecdotes about my time on the road because, let’s be honest, I always try to come back with a funky story.
This is not intended to be a one-sided conversation, though! Let me know if you, too, got over heartbreak on a beach in Cartagena, and I’d love to hear all about your experience with the Perito Moreno Glacier in El Calafate. Toss me a comment or an email — Latin America has a special place in my heart, and I’m always eager to talk about it.
